We are proud to share that @afasikomla , a valued member of the African Survivor Coalition, represented the coalition — alongside Footprint to Freedom and Engage Now Africa — at the Regional Workshop on the Implementation of the UN Convention against Transnational Organized Crime (UNTOC) for Europe.
The workshop was organised by UNODC in collaboration with Libera Associazioni Nomi e Numeri Contro le Mafie, the Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime, and the Alliance of NGOs on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice.
During the workshop, Afasi delivered a powerful presentation on:
• The persistent challenge of human trafficking in Africa
• Harmful cultural practices affecting vulnerable communities
• Emerging trends driving exploitation across the region
• Current regional interventions and the need for strengthened action
He emphasised the importance of Survivor Leadership, and the adoption of Afrocentric, victim-centered, and community-driven approaches to prevention, protection, and policy development. His message reinforced the urgent need for stronger collaboration and survivor-led solutions in combatting trafficking and organised crime.
The workshop convened more than 40 experts from across Europe, who explored critical issues including:
• Child exploitation and trafficking for criminal purposes
• Corruption, hybrid threats, and high-risk criminal networks
• Cyber-enabled organised crime and AI-driven threats
• Asset recovery and the social use of confiscated assets
• Youth recruitment and prevention strategies
We extend our heartfelt appreciation to the organisers, especially @billy_real_batman thank you for including the voices of African Survivor leaders.
